Aldfaers Erf

That is Frisian for ‘our forefathers heritage’

You can see it and enjoy it in the lake district in the south-west corner of Friesland. There you will find four villages - Exmorra, Allingawier, Ferwoude and Piaam - which together form one of the world’s unique museum trails. 25 kilometres of cultural history in the form of beautifully restored and originally furnished historical buildings, crafts, tools and implements, left behind by the rural population of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Whether you are in the grocer’s shop, bakery, smithy, carpenter’s shop, on the farm, in a living room, the school, the church or on the skûtsje - a typical Frisian cargo vessel - you will get the impression that the original inhabitants and users have left their Country in order to give you time to wonder and daydream. Imagine the hard work of the farmer’s wife, or that of the carpenter, who was also an astronomer. And what about the grocer with off-licence, who also taught the children of the village in a room set out as a classroom. Taste the old days of Friesland in granny’s shop or in the bakery, where ‘Drabbelkoeken’ are baked.
